Galway Arts Festival (July)

The Arts Festival is the biggest and best Arts Festival in the country.  It features a wide variety of national and International acts. Drama, music, dance, film, exhibitions, comedy, literary and children’s events all feature in this Festival, ending with a spectacular fire works display and a fantastically colourful parade.

Cuirt Cuirt International Literary Festival (April)

From its genesis as a festival dedicated to poetry 25 years ago, to the present day, it has always placed the writer and the reader at its core.

Alongside readings in poetry and prose, the packed programme features a wide range of launches, exhibitions, readings for younger people and special events in theatre and film, making a visit to Galway an irresistible prospect in late April.

Galway Races (July/Aug)

A 7 day festival of horse racing takes place on the last week of July each year in the famous Ballybrit Race course. It is probably the largest and most popular in the country, with top class racing and with top class fields, and is a most enjoyable event. Two smaller meetings are held in September and October.

Baboro Barboro International Arts Festival for Children (Oct)

Baboró International Arts Festival for Children is Ireland’s flagship international arts festival devoted exclusively to children and families.  In 2010 Baboro celebrates 14 years of presenting a multidisciplinary arts festival to thousands of children in Ireland from our base in Galway.Mission: To inspire children to engage with the world through their experience of the arts.

Galway International Oyster Festival (Sept)

The Galway Oyster Festival is held at the end of September to celebrate Galway’s rich annual oyster harvest. It is the biggest Oyster Festival in Ireland. The Irish and World Oyster Opening Championships are held during the festival, as well as superb banquets and top class entertainment, and of course, rich, creamy Guinness.

Clarenbridge Oyster Festival Clarenbridge Oyster Festival (Sept)

The Clarenbridge Oyster Festival is held in mid September. There is musical entertainment in many of the pubs, together with superb food and wine, and of course the locally bred oysters from the Claren river.

The Galway Film Fleadh (July)

The Film Fleadh in early July takes place in the Town Hall theatre and various other venues throughout the city. Locals and international visitors indulge in the best of cinema in the most relaxed atmosphere.

Fr.Ted Ted Fest – The Father Ted Festival (Feb)

The Friends of Ted Festival, or Ted Fest, is an annual fan convention held on the island of Inishmor, off the coast of County Galway for fans of the Channel 4 sitcom Father Ted. The series was set on the fictional Craggy Island off Ireland’s west coast, so Ted Fest is also held on such an island.

Greyhound Racing

Greyhound Racing is a great night out. The track is situated in College Road, within walking distance of the city centre. Race meetings are held every Tuesday and Thursday night, and every night during the Annual Galway Racing festival week.
